I had a fantastic evening watching the Freestyle dressage at Olympia, where some of the World’s greatest dressage riders and horses were performing. All very inspiring and I even got to witness Charlotte and Valegro break the World record with over 93% and the wonderful Edward Gal and Carl Hester performing. Next year I am intending on getting a box for the dressage night so please let me know if you may be interested in joining us?

We had a really enjoyable meal at the Queen’s Head in Fyfield to celebrate Christmas together. Nearly everyone from the yard managed to make it and we had a delicious three course meal followed by an interesting drive home in thick fog! Thankfully everyone got home safely and had a great time at the pub that evening  having a catch up in good company.

We had an enjoyable couple of days up at Addington Manor for the Brightwells Auctions watching the trial rides of lots of fabulous German and Dutch imported horses for dressage, jumping and eventing. Friday was the day of the trial rides where a few of our group tried out a handful of the ridden dressage and eventing 3 yr old horses. Saturday was then the conclusion of the event with the morning presentations of the loose jumping followed by another opportunity to trial ride horses and to speak to the vets regarding the full vetting and x-rays of the horses. The evening then came to a draw with the auction of the horses and a full 3 course meal to accompany. The prices that the horses sold for ranged between £4000 and £32,000, with a large proportion going for under the £10,000 bracket. The star of the show was Woodlander Freddie, full brother to the top performing dressage mare Woodlander Farouche, who sold for £40,000 (much less than imagined). An excellent night out that I would recommend.

We have had another livery join us at Wood Farm. Her name is Paula and she brings with her a lovely 2yr old TB called Scarlet. Scarlet has settled in very well and she will be having the Winter off before commencing some ridden work again in the Spring. With the help of Rosie Bates who is a member of the Wood Farm team and is experienced in backing and breaking youngsters as well riding ex-race horses we will be helping Paula to retrain Scarlet and get back into ridden work.

We had a great couple of days at the BD dressage Convention at Hartpury, Glos. Adelinde Cornelissen the Dutch Olympian rider was the speaker and trainer invited for the convention. Her principles of speed control and visualisation were very interesting and had us all inspired to test out what we had learnt when we got home. I recommend going next year to any of you budding dressage enthusiasts!
